Quiet between places

Sometimes the most valuable part of a journey is not the polished result, but the moment where people share what they are learning, testing, and trying to understand together.

Road to the depths of Brunei : Part 2 Young Diver Program

My experience with the GUE Young Diver Program was a week built around connection, exploration, and growth — above and below the surface. Beyond diving itself, the program brought together leadership and mentorship workshops, fitness and team activities, expedition storytelling, meaningful conversations with like-minded next-generation divers, and a collaborative documentation project that captured the experience along the way.

Can You Learn 3D Photogrammetry as a Recreational Diver?

Most divers assume underwater photogrammetry is reserved for scientists and tech divers with expensive gear. I assumed the same — until I tried it, failed at it, and discovered it had nothing to do with cameras. Here's what a shipwreck, a GoPro, and a lot of bad attempts taught me about diving with purpose.

Project Marine Park: Mapping Tyre City

I never intended to embark on a dive project that would change my approach to exploration. It all started with an unexpected night dive in July, where I was towed by a DPV and got hooked on the thrill of flying through the water at night. But it wasn't just about the adrenaline rush - it was about the mystery of the underwater site known as Tire-City. My friend Zicong had retrieved GPS coordinates for this place, and I couldn't resist the urge to explore it. As I continued to dive with my friends Jon and Gemma, we started to realize that our goal wasn't just to map out the wrecks, but to create a comprehensive map of the site. It took some trial and error - I made mistakes, learned from them, and kept going. And eventually, we reached a key milestone: a reliable map of Tire-City, accurate GPS coordinates, and the ability to locate the site using triangulation. It's not just about mapping out a dive site - it's about conservation, long-term monitoring, and collaboration with local organizations like Reef Check Malaysia. Sometimes, the best projects are the ones you didn't even plan to start.
